What is Biodiesel?
Biodiesel is a fuel for diesel trucks, cars, buses and tractors.
It’s a renewable fuel. Now what is renewable? Which will never end, that means you can make it endless. Actually we are using soyabean mostly as a row material, also can use jathopha, animal fats and waste oils.
Are there any types Of Biodiesel?
Yes, depends upon the blending with petroleum diesel,
Biodiesel classified as:
B2- 2% blending with biodiesel,
B5- 5% blending with biodiesel,
B20- 20% blending with biodiesel,
B100- Pure biodiesel.
Is Biodiesel Better for our Health?
Yes. Breathing in biodiesel is not hazardous to our lungs and hearts. When it comes out the exhaust pipe,
it even smells better than diesel smoke. Biodiesel can smell like French fries!
Why we should use Biodiesel?
Because:
1. Ofcourse we will be less dependent on Foreign Oil.
2. Less damage to Environment,
3. Higher Lubricity.
4. Less Emission of smoke.
But pure Biodiesel has some disadvantage-
1. It gets gelled at cold temperature.
2. Initial Setup Of the plant is high.
3. Transportation and storage of pure diesel require special management.
What is Total consumption of Biodiesel in India?
In India we have not making that much Biodiesel. Our total consumption of diesel is 40 million ton/yr, and we are using Biodiesel only 2% of that petroleum diesel. While in US total diesel consumption is 60 million ton/yr and Biodiesel consumption is 40 million ton/year. Now most of Indian petroleum companies like Indian Oil, Reliance petroleum, Bharat petroleum going to setup the Biodiesel plants.
Where are the Biodiesel Plants in India?
In India,
1. Large-scale plantations have been initiated in North-East India and Jharkhand.
2. Reliance Energy has a pilot project of 200 acres in Jamnagar (Gujarat).
3. Bharat Petroleum has invested $9.4 million in Andhra Pradesh.
4. Shirke Biohealthcase (Pune) are making 10 ton of Biodiesel daily and supplied to Municipal Transport Pune.
5. Kochi Refineries Ltd (KRL) is setting up a pilot plant with a US firm in Tamil Nadu.
Apart from this, many petroleum industries are trying to setup the Biodiesel plant in India.
Hope in next few years we all will drive our cars by using Biodiesel.

Thats a very good way of reducing pollution and solving the problem of non-renewable resources

Sachin, Nice to hear such type of things by which we don’t have to depend on the Petroleum Products, which may end by some day, but I would like to know more about this idea and the equipment being used.
One thing more that is this product is easily available every where, and what kind of Vehicles can use this, is there same/different type of engine used for this diesel.

Yes…The use of this useful fuel should be increased as soon as possible,as we all know about disadvantages of the other fuel types.
