CiviCRM @ CodeCampMumbai

CodeCamp is basically an event for coders, where you just code and code and try to come up with some new software/feature etc.

CodeCampMumbai was officially sponsored by CiviCRM.

And it all began like a normal Barcamp (like any other non-conference). As we all know, most of the developers are nocturnal, yet again CodeCampMumbai was no exception and started off schedule.
I am here with one of my colleagues (Deepak) to work on Facebook plugin for CiviCRM. Some initial specs on this feature:

Other interesting projects included lighting up bulb using web interface(PHP), Mapping and Adding Events on Google Map.

At around 12.00 pm we kicked off with the event. We were hoping for some miracle to happen in next 20 hours or so.

Earlier I had several problems with net connectivity, which slowed down my progress. After lunch we had a good coding session and were able to retrieve data from Facebook inside CiviCRM framework.

CiviCRM related changes such as Facebook tab in Contact Summary were done by late evening. We were also able to generate permanent session key for facebook, so that everytime users need not sign in their Facebook account.

Since everyone was busy with their projects, we had late dinner along with a good all-topic discussion as a dessert :)

Around 1.30 am we were able to get Contact Summary with Facebook profile and also Contact Dashboard with Facebook friend list. We were hoping to do more work done in next few hours.

Another interesting stuff that we tried was adding CiviCRM plugin for Wordpress. After trying for around 2 hours we gave up on this. It was fun working with Akshay on this.

At around 6.30 am we were almost done with Facebook stuff. We were able to get data from Facebook and display it in CiviCRM.

Finally at around 7.00 am we headed for our homes. It was fun working together with everyone @ CodeCamp. This intensive coding session did remind me of our college days. This refreshed my memories of playing Need for Speed on network and then working till early morning to finish project. Hmmm. those were the days…

    Kurund,

I must say CodeCampMumbai was a success primarily because it lived up to its spirit. You summed it well here:

It was fun working together with everyone @ CodeCamp. This intensive coding session did remind me of our college days.

Another great feeling was that even though everyone was involved in different things we still had a lot of in common and so much to share with eachother.

    U rock ;)

    Thanks,

    Akky

So what happened to the capability of interfacing with facebook? Do you produce some useful code? That would be a great thing to have as a feature of civiCSM 2.1!

Yes, we were able to do some basic integration. I have already blogged about this on official CiviCRM blog, please check: http://civicrm.org/node/261
